Mixed Dielectric Capacitors - MD Capacitors

Mixed Dielectric Capacitors
Plain PP Film

We provide high-reliability Mixed Dielectric Capacitors, often abbreviated as MD Capacitors, operating from our facility in Pune, Maharashtra, India. These Capacitors are distinguished by their composite dielectric system, which typically involves a combination of two or more insulating materials, most commonly Paper and APP (All Polypropylene) film, interleaved with Aluminum Foil electrodes. This strategic blend is designed to leverage the superior characteristics of each material. For instance, Paper provides high impulse strength and stability, while APP (All Polypropylene) film contributes to extremely low dielectric losses and a high dielectric constant. The result is a Capacitor that delivers an exceptional balance of low loss, high power handling capacity, and robust surge current withstand capability, making MD Capacitors ideal for the most demanding industrial and utility applications.

The construction of our Mixed Dielectric Capacitors involves tightly winding the composite dielectric and Aluminum Foils into compact elements. These elements are then heavily impregnated with a high-quality, non-toxic, and non-PCB insulating oil or compound. This impregnation is crucial as it eliminates internal air voids, maximizes the insulation characteristics, and ensures excellent heat transfer from the energized core to the external Enclosure. The external casing is a hermetically sealed metal body, usually made from robust materials like CRCA (Cold Rolled Close Annealed) Steel or SS (Stainless Steel), providing mechanical protection and superior thermal dissipation. This robust MOC (Material of Construction) guarantees a long and reliable service life even under exposure to adverse environmental conditions.

MD Capacitors are predominantly of the non-self-healing type and are the workhorses in HT (High Tension) electrical networks for high-power PFC (Power Factor Correction) and harmonic filtering. Their ability to handle high thermal stress and continuous high RMS (Root Mean Square) currents makes them indispensable in installations prone to significant harmonic distortion, such as those with large VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), Arc Furnaces, and Induction Heating Equipment. Every MD Capacitor undergoes stringent quality checks, including temperature rise and discharge tests, conforming strictly to international standards like IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) and national specifications like IS (Indian Standards). We offer these Units ready for integration into large Capacitor Banks and advanced Harmonic Filter Systems, supplying all necessary Accessories and protective Components, including internal discharge Resistors and external Fuses.

Features :

  • Composite Dielectric System : Utilizes a mix of materials, like Paper and APP (All Polypropylene) film, for optimized electrical properties, combining high impulse strength with low losses.
  • High Thermal Stability : Designed to withstand high operating temperatures and thermal stress, suitable for environments with high harmonic content.
  • Low Dissipation Factor : Achieved through the use of APP (All Polypropylene) film, resulting in high energy efficiency and reduced operational costs.
  • Non Self Healing Design: Provides stable capacitance and reliable performance over the entire service life of the Units.
  • Robust Impregnation: Uses non-toxic, non-PCB insulating fluid for superior cooling and enhanced dielectric strength, filling all voids within the Capacitor.
  • Durable Enclosures: Protected by sturdy CRCA (Cold Rolled Close Annealed) Steel or SS (Stainless Steel) Enclosures for mechanical and environmental resistance.
  • High Current Endurance: Excellent ability to sustain high continuous current loads, typical of heavy industrial applications.

Applications :

  • HT (High Tension) Power Factor Correction (PFC): Primary application in HT (High Tension) substations and large industrial facilities for bulk reactive power compensation.
  • Harmonic Filter Banks: Ideal as key Components in Tuned and Detuned Filter Banks for critical harmonic mitigation in electrical systems.
  • Induction and Arc Furnace Loads: Used to compensate for the significant, fluctuating reactive power demands of Arc and Induction Furnaces.
  • Transmission and Distribution Utilities: Integrated into large Capacitor Banks for system-level voltage regulation and stability enhancement.
  • Industrial Installations: Employed in facilities with high non-linear loads, such as those utilizing numerous VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives) and UPS Systems (Uninterruptible Power Supply Systems).
  • Series and Shunt Compensation: Used in both Series and Shunt Compensation configurations across power networks to optimize power flow.
